Spiritwind Collies
I got my first Collie in 1994, when I was 12yrs old. That was a big tri-color rough male, I named Laddie, and he was very much a pet quality Collie, but he is the reason I am hooked on this wonderful breed of dog.
I showed Laddie in 4-H for several years, over those years I got a couple other Collies to try in AKC shows, but knowing very little at the time, I did not know what to look for in a show quality Collie.
I finally got my first AKC show dog from Apple Valley Collies in Spring of 2001. He was a smooth blue merle male, sired by CH Capella's Midnight Blues, ROM. He went on to become CH Apple Valley Shades of Blue, CGC. Ben also proved that Collies are also excellent working dogs, and is an excellent herding dog.
A few months after I got Ben, I was lucky enough to get a beautiful 14 month old rough blue bitch from a good friend of mine. Angie, Tomelle's Painted Angel, OFA-Excellent was her name. She did not like the show ring, but became my first brood bitch and has since produced 2 beautiful litters.
The first litter we had here at Spiritwind, was sired by CH Apple Valley Coat of Arms, OFA-Good (out of Angie). Bart - a rough tri-color male. We later went on to buy and co-own Bart with Ellen Ball of Armitage Collies and Shelties (Formerly Tomelle Collies). Bart has produced 1 champion so far, CH Twin Acres Patrick Henry.
Angie's second litter was sired by a smooth sable male we bought in July 2004. His litter out of Angie was born Sept. 21, 2004.
That dog is Mjr Ptd HawkEire Flyin Without Wings. Zack, is a 3x Andre great grandson. He lives here with me, but I also co-own him with Ellen Ball. Zack is a young male, he will be 2yrs old in April 2005.
I am very happy with Zack, he is the kind of smooth Collie I have been looking for. Beautiful head and expression, great body, tons of bone and the biggest clow you will ever see.
I kept 2 of the puppies sired by Zack, out of Angie. I have 1 smooth sable female - "Paris" - Spiritwind Barely An Angel, and "Kelsey" - Spiritwind Ain't No Angel, who is a rough tri.
There is also a rough blue from the litter owned by Armitage Collies and Shelties.
Zack, Paris and Kelsey will be at the 2005 CCA national specialty in Oklahome City. Zack will be handled by Crystal Stoner.
